The Moorpool Petition

Sign Petition

Signed By: D.A.Davies
Address:

Comments: This seems like another example of Develop regardless of resident' wishes.

Signed By: marcus Adams
Address:

Comments: The moorpool estate should not be developed, its a unique part of Birmingham, I am disgusted by the proposal. Grainger should be ashamed.

Signed By: andrew nicholls
Address:

Comments: the estate should remain as it is so that it is a blue print for developments elsewhere in the future.

Signed By: Patrick Maynard
Address:

Comments: Having grown up on the estate I am disgusted with the neglect and disregard for community property Grainger have shown. I am deeply saddened by the loss of the natural green space and allotments which have been such a huge part of the estate. It is a shame that a suburb which has such historical and conservational interest will be lost forever for the sake of making money.

Signed By: Ben Kyneswood
Address:

Comments: Please keep the smallest Garden-city development as it was intended. It has a value and insight into lives past, and provokes thought into how communities and their environments co-exist.

Signed By: Natalie Kyneswood
Address:

Comments: The Moor Pool Estate must be preserved for future generations to enjoy. Preservation and conservation to enhance the area and promote green spaces not to disfigure, pave-over, dilute the style of the suburb. The planned developments are utterly disproportionate, unreasonable and, for the sake of a hand-full of cheap new-builds, will forever ruin the beauty and the character of the estate. Shame on you Birmingham City Council.

Signed By: Darrell WIlliams
Address:

Comments: Why build on an Allotment site when people are being encouraged to "grow their own".....utter stupidity!!!

Signed By: Steve Smith
Address:

Comments: I wish object to the planning decision to allow new housing development within the original MoorPool Co-partnership Society 'garden surburb' without a Character Appraisal or Landscape/Visual Impact Statement.

Signed By: C Melling
Address:

Comments: I moved to Harborne because of its charm; the first thing that attracted me to the area was an accidental detour through the Moorpool Estate. I was hooked and simply had to live here. I certainly want the Moorpool Estate to remain untouched by developers.

Signed By: Richard Couch
Address:

Comments: The open spaces and conservation status were some of the key reasons I moved to the area. It's really disappointing to see how Graingers are able to by-pass the conservation status with relative ease.

Comments: I too was born on and grew up on the Moorpool Estate and have grown increasingly aghast at the wilful neglect and destruction of this unique area.Selling out was a big mistake, maintenance of all areas has been allowed to pretty well vanish. Householders moved in who had no feeling for the Estate as a whole and subjected their homes to alterations which removed the original character. The granting of conservation status we hoped would put a stop to this. This latest blatant bulldozer charge through the heart of the Estate is totally unacceptable, and the fact that planning permission has been given makes a mockery of democracy - to say nothing of tearing up its so called conservation status.

Signed By: Michael Barnes
Address:

Comments: I was fortunate enough to have grown up on the estate in the 60s & early 70sin the days when Birmingham had a Corporation that was forward-looking rather than a Council which is unworthy of the title. Perhaps with Bournville now under threat as well, they may come to realise just what they are about to destroy. Meanwhile I'm no longer proud to be a Brummie, and won't be rushing to defend the city against its many detractors as I have done in the past.

Signed By: Sarah and Barry Morley
Address:

Comments: BCC operate such double standards. Isn't it amazing that all of the rhetoric displayed on their planning and conservation website disappears in the face of big business?

Signed By: Andy Millard
Address:

Comments: After the expectations and promises that produced all of the hard work and enthusiasm of a few years ago in getting the importance of Moorpool recognised, so many of us were greatly dissapointed at the lack of protection that resulted from being afforded conservation status. Birmingham City Council have a duty of care to the nation regarding Moorpool that they seem to have abandoned, possibly in their desire to keep Grainger 'onside' with respect to their other financial interests in the city. Moorpool is being sacrificed!!

Signed By: kate gallimore
Address:

Comments: Moorpool is a unique and historic place. I am disappointed with the blatant disregard BCC has shown to this, the feelings of the residents and neighbouring population, its conservation status and the opinions of groups such as English Heritage. Mike Whitby, who otherwise extols the virtues of Harborne has been conspicuous in his silence.Shame on you Mr Whitby!

Signed By: Heather Moore
Address:

Comments: No building should be allowed on the open lands of a garden suburb that was so carefully planned. It is part of our heritage and should be conserved for the enjoyment of present and future generations and as an example of good urban planning

Signed By: JParslow
Address:

Comments: Obstruct the opening of a new cafe/restaurant on the forever depleting Harborne high st. And to then not show any indifference to a major housing development in the centre of one of Birmingham's best planned and historical housing estates. Mr Whitby have you no idea?

Signed By: Phil Shelton
Address:

Comments: so much for consultation! BCC should be ashamed

Signed By: Peter Hampson
Address:

Comments: Having moved to the area recently for its unique character, I find it unbeleivable that these plans have been approved as it seems to go against everything that a 'conservation area' is supposed to represent.

Signed By: Alun Thomas
Address:

Comments: Moorpool has been let down by so many people. BCC for wasting tax payers money by seeking the view of local residents and then choosing to ignore their response. BCC Planning Dept. for ignoring their own development policies. The Planning Committee for putting their own political agenda before what really matters. The Harborne Society for failing to live up to what they claim to stand for. Their web site talks of 'conservation' and 'representing the interests of Harborne'. Not in Moorpool obviously! What a joke! And finally, Mike Whitby, illustrious leader of BCC and Harborne Councillor, for keeping so quiet on the whole matter. Come on Mr Whitby, stand up and defend the actions of your own council. Luckily, Moorpool has scores of residents and supporters who are prepared to fight for justice.

Signed By: Tricia Cusack
Address:

Comments: Moor Pool has been nationally recognised by English Heritage as one of the best examples of a garden suburb: it is one of the jewels of Birmingham. BCC Planning Committee did not have the courage - or the principles - to refuse permission for 16 mediocre houses to be built on its green spaces (as a profit-making venture by a developer). And why was The Harborne Society sitting on the fence when we needed them? Luckily we have a huge number of committed residents...

Signed By: Margaret O'Hara
Address:

Comments: Where was Mike Whitby during all of this? He claims that his position as leader of the council prevents him from taking a position so the message is clear, if you vote for Mike Whitby, you can't expect your elected representative to speak on your behalf on local issues. What, then, is the point of voting for him?

Signed By: Stuart Green
Address:

Comments: Birmingham City Council seem not to care that one of the few truly attractive places to live in reach of the City Centre will be spoiled forever by this proposal. Perhaps they do not want Birmingham to be counted amongst the major European Cities?

Signed By: Martyn Harris
Address:

Comments: I am appalled that the BCC has approved this dreadful application against the wishes of the residents. Where are our local representatives?

Signed By: Pip Killick
Address:

Comments: I just don't understand why the council approved the plans to build on the Moorpool garage sites

Signed By: Ray Kneale
Address:

Comments: An appalling example of 'local democracy'! How a public body can blatantly ignore the will of the majority and a set of articulate, powerful arguments is a sad indictment of local governance. Just who does BCC think it represents?

Signed By:
Address:

Signed By: Duncan Gallimore
Address:

Comments: How can a company that has allowed so much of the estate to fall into such disrepair be allowed to build new housing and strip more value while not being held to account for such neglect? The double standards to me are shocking.

Signed By: Justine Richardson

Signed By: Mike Haywood
Address:

Comments: The decision by the planing commitee to allow this application poses the questions A)Whose interests are paramount? Obviosley not the residents,B) Why did NO Tory member vote against?

Signed By: Phil Simpson
Address:

Comments: It is ironic that 100 years after the then Planning Committee Chairman laid the foundations for this wonderful estate our current City Council are seeking to destroy its unique heritage! You do wonder how we can get Coumcillors to listen?

Signed By: Sarah Hanson
Address:

Comments: I'm appalled at Birmingham City Council's wilful disregard of Moor Pool and its unique local architectural heritage. And I'm sad for all the council tax payers who took time in good faith to write their objections individually to the Council. Is there nothing that interests BCC more than the banal big city plan, approving endless schemes of appartment blocks with tiny living spaces? The Planning team would do well to respect history a litle more and learn from our forefathers mistakes, in the same way as those skilled craftsmen and philanthropists did when they created Moor Pool to take people out of back-to-back living. God help other conservation areas!

Signed By: Alex Evans
Address:

Comments: A disappointing but not unexpected decision given the lack of attention paid to local residents' concerns about various matters affecting the local community.

Signed By: Liz Muir
Address:

Comments: What the Council does not seem to have realised is that Moorpool provides recreation and enjoyment to many residents in the Harborne/Quinborne area. It's a resource for the wider community because of the green space it provides, the recreational facilities it offers and its links with Birmingham's heritage.

Signed By: carol hughes
Address:

Comments: The Conservative and Liberal democratic councillors on BCC have totally failed to protect an architectural gem of historical importance.

Signed By: Catherine Stacey
Address:

Comments: The new house build CANNOT go ahead for all the reasons already been mentioned.

Signed By: Timothy Barrett
Address:

Comments: I am disappointed that Birmingham City Council is allowing the proposed housing developments to proceed. The proposals are not sympathetic to the existing estate and result in a loss of much needed alottment space. Alottments are currently being witheld rather than rented out; and being allowed to become overgrown. This creates a false impression that there is an excess of alottments; whereas there is a waiting list of people who would like to cultivate them.

Signed By: Kate Nancarrow
Address:

Comments: A major blow for one of the few remaining geniunely special and historic bits of Birimingham. BCC needs to have a rethink about what it prioritises.

Signed By: R Stockton
Address:

Comments: I agree with all of the comments made below, though for me the most disappointing aspect of all this is the way that the Council appear to have dismissed the views of hundreds of local residents.

Signed By: M Parkes
Address:

Comments: My worry is the implications of granting this planning permission for both other open spaces on the Moorpool Estate and other allotments in Birmingham.

Signed By: Gillian Morgan
Address:

Comments: I am so devestated by the loss of our beautiful estate to the evils of financial gain. 100 years of historic importance appears to be of no consequence to BCC and they should be ashamed of themselves for destroying this jewel in the Crown of Birmingham with its wonderful open spaces and real community spirit.

Signed By: Alastair Moyes
Address:

Comments: BCC should follow the rules they set for themselves on planning applications and not allow political or personal vested interests interfere with set planning policy.

Signed By: Tina Hackett
Address:

Comments: I am stunned that Birmingham City Council appear to have dismissed the importance, value and benefits that conserving and celebrating Moorpool could have for Birmingham

Signed By: Andrew Hackett
Address:

Comments: This makes a mockery of the Estate's conservation status

Signed By: Igor Cusack
Address:

Comments: The Moor Pool Estate needs protection not building on its green spaces!

Signed By: Rob Sutton
Address:

Comments: Birmingham City Council should be ashamed to have approved new build in this rare garden suburb.
